Generate Kokiri names in the style of Ocarina of Time: soft two-syllable names like Nelo, Pima and Solmi, musical names like Minuet and Lilt, bynames like Rila the Rock Lifter, guardian fairy names like Twinkl and Glimr, and forest places like Lullaby Clearing.

About Kokiri names

The Kokiri are the forest children of Ocarina of Time. They never grow up, they live in Kokiri Forest under the care of the Great Deku Tree, and each one has a guardian fairy. Canon names only three of them, Saria, Mido and Fado, so nearly every Kokiri name you meet is a fan's invention. This list is the same: original names written in the style of those three, not names taken from the games.

The style is easy to hear. All three names are short and soft and end on an open vowel. Fans noticed long ago that Mido and Fado read like two notes of the solfege scale (mi-do, fa-do) and that Saria holds the word aria. Nintendo has never stated that as a rule, so treat it as a pattern and not a law. The list leans on it lightly with names such as Solmi and Lado, then widens to soft two-syllable names like Nelo and Pima and to musical words like Minuet and Lilt.

The rest covers what a forest story needs: twins, Kokiri with jobs and bynames (Boss Dabo, Rila the Rock Lifter), guardian fairies with bright, clipped names (Twinkl, Glimr), and places such as Lullaby Clearing and The Whistling Bridge.

How to choose Kokiri names

  • Keep it short and end on a vowel. Saria, Mido and Fado all do, and names like Nelo, Pima and Tavo sit beside them without standing out.
  • Use the do-re-mi idea lightly. One or two note syllables inside a name (Solmi, Remi, Lado) is a nice nod; a whole village of them starts to read like a scale exercise.
  • Give your Kokiri a fairy and make the two names contrast: a soft name for the child (Mera, Koli) and a bright, clipped one for the fairy (Twinkl, Pling, Nivi).
  • Bynames should come from village life. A Kokiri is a child in a small forest settlement, so Rila the Rock Lifter or Sedo the Early Riser fits where a battle title would not.
  • If you want a name made from a leaf, a seed or a kind of wood, you are naming a Korok. Those follow a different convention and have their own generator on this site.

Frequently asked questions

What are the canon Kokiri names?

Only three Kokiri names are given in canon: Saria, Mido and Fado. Others, such as the Know-It-All Brothers and the twins, are known only by description. Every name in this list is an original in the same style, and none of them is presented as a name from the games.

Are Kokiri names really based on do-re-mi?

It is a pattern fans noticed, not a rule Nintendo has stated. Mido and Fado can be read as pairs of solfege notes, and with only three named Kokiri that is enough to set a style. Names in this list such as Solmi, Lado, Remi and Fasola follow the same idea.

What should I name a guardian fairy?

Link's fairy is Navi, a short, bright name of two syllables, and the fairy names here keep to that sound: Nivi, Tilli, Pling, Glim. A second set drops a vowel from an ordinary word, as in Twinkl, Glimr and Jingl. Pick one that contrasts with the softer name of the Kokiri it belongs to.

What is the difference between Kokiri and Korok names?

In The Wind Waker the Great Deku Tree says the Koroks once had human forms, which is why fans treat them as the later shape of the Kokiri. Korok names tend to come from leaves, seeds and wood. This page keeps to the soft, musical names of the child form, plus fairies and forest places.
