Generate lore-accurate kalashtar names for D&D 5e and Eberron, built the canonical way: a personal prefix fused to the name of the quori spirit the character's line is bonded to, as in Lanamelk, Havrakhad, or Kanatash.
About kalashtar names
Kalashtar are the psionic humans of Eberron, descended from a group of Adaran monks who bonded with renegade quori dream-spirits fleeing Dal Quor. Every kalashtar carries a fragment of one of those original spirits, and their names reflect that partnership directly. Eberron: Rising from the Last War explains that a kalashtar name is a personal prefix joined to the name of the bonded quori, so a person named Lan bonded to the spirit Amelk is called Lanamelk, and one named Havra bonded to Khad is Havrakhad. Because the same handful of quori spirits are shared across whole lineages, you see the same endings again and again: -khad, -tash, -melk, -tesh, -harath, and -tai are the most common.
That structure means kalashtar names double as a family record. Everyone bonded to the quori Kanatash shares that ending and is a distant relative, and kalashtar sometimes address each other by the quori portion alone. The personal prefix is usually one or two soft syllables (Hal, Kan, Lan, Mel, Pan, Thak, Thin, Vash, Gan, Khav) and the same prefixes are used for any gender.
A good kalashtar name should be smooth and vaguely Sanskrit-flavored, end in one of the recognized quori suffixes, and give your DM a hook to the specific spirit your character dreams with.
Tips for choosing a name
- Choose the quori suffix first, then the prefix; the suffix tells other kalashtar which spirit and lineage your character belongs to.
- Stick to the canonical endings (-khad, -tash, -melk, -tesh, -harath, -tai) if you want the name to be recognized by players who know Eberron.
- Ask your DM whether the quori spirit itself has a personality in your game; kalashtar characters often talk to it, so name it something you can say in dialogue.
- For a kalashtar raised in Sharn or the Five Nations, add a common human name for use with outsiders and keep the bonded name for kalashtar and close friends.
- Avoid English compound names like Dreamwalker or Mindwhisper; those read as titles, not kalashtar names.
Frequently asked questions
How do kalashtar names work in Eberron?
A kalashtar name combines a short personal prefix with the name of the quori spirit the character is bonded to. Lanamelk is Lan plus the spirit Amelk, and Thakakhad is Thak plus Khad. Because a lineage shares one spirit, relatives share the same ending.
Do male and female kalashtar have different names?
Not by structure. The same prefixes and quori suffixes appear across genders in the official examples, and the quori spirit itself has no fixed gender, so any name here works for any character.
Can a kalashtar use a normal human name?
Yes. Kalashtar living among humans in Khorvaire often use an everyday name and reserve their bonded name for family and other kalashtar, which is a common way to play a character who hides their heritage.
Are these names free to use in my campaign or fiction?
Yes. Names generated here are free for characters, homebrew, and fiction; the Eberron setting itself is owned by Wizards of the Coast.
