About quori names

Quori are the native spirits of Dal Quor, the Region of Dreams in the Eberron setting. Most serve il-Lashtavar, the Darkness that Dreams, as agents of the Dreaming Dark, riding human vessels called the Inspired who rule Riedra on Sarlona. A rebel faction led by the quori Taratai fled into the monks of Adar instead, and their descendants are the kalashtar. That history is the key to quori naming: every kalashtar name is a personal prefix fused to the name of a bonded quori, so the spirit behind Lanamelk is Amelk, behind Havrakhad is Khad, and behind Kanatash is Atash. Those short, hard spirit names – Tesh, Harath, Melk, Tai – are the template.

Longer quori names keep the same sound but stretch it: sibilants and breathy stops (sh, kh, th, q, ts) wrapped around open vowels, ending in -ai, -esh, -ath, -ana or -ar. Tirashana, Kashtavar and Dreshaq all sound like something whispered at the edge of sleep. Agents of the Dreaming Dark sometimes carry the il- prefix that marks anything belonging to the Darkness, and a few mighty kalaraq are known only by epithets such as the Devourer of Dreams.

Use short names for the spirit inside a kalashtar, the long ones for Inspired villains or tsucora nightmares, and the epithets for anything your party should fear.

How to choose quori names

For a kalashtar PC, pick a short quori name (Amelk, Khad, Atash, Tesh) and fuse it to a personal prefix; Lan + Amelk gives Lanamelk, which tells Eberron players which lineage the character belongs to.
Match the caste to the sound: tsucora and du'ulora nightmares want harsh clusters (Dreshaq, Zhurakh), hashalaq manipulators want smooth syllables (Ilarash, Tirashana), kalaraq lords want length and an epithet.
Reserve the il- prefix for spirits and agents loyal to il-Lashtavar; a rebel or kalashtar-bonded quori would never use it.
Remember that quori speak through the Inspired, so give a Dreaming Dark villain both a quori name and a Riedran human name for the vessel; players learning the true name is a great reveal.
Avoid English compound names like Dreamstealer or Nightweaver as the spirit's actual name; use those as titles, with a proper quori name underneath.
