Hobgoblin Name Generator

Hobgoblins are the disciplined cousins of goblins and bugbears: soldiers first, raiders second. In Dungeons & Dragons lore they live in legions ruled by warlords, worship the goblin war-god Maglubiyet, and prize rank, honor and obedience above everything else. Their names reflect that. Where goblin names are squeaky and silly, hobgoblin names are short, hard and martial: clusters like -zod, -gash, -kar, -rik and -zhet, plenty of K, G, R and Z sounds, and almost nothing soft or lilting.

A hobgoblin's name usually has two layers. The first is a personal name given at birth: Kesh, Rathgar, Ordrick, Vreth. The second is earned. Rank (Warlord, Legate, Captain, Iron Shadow, Devastator), a legion or fortress affiliation (of the Blackspear Legion, of Fort Grimhold), or a war-title won through deeds (Wallbreaker, Ninescars, Ironbanner). A hobgoblin without an earned title is a low-ranking recruit; a hobgoblin with three is somebody your party should be worried about.

The names below mix all three forms so you can pick a plain given name for a rank-and-file soldier, a title-and-name combination for an officer, or a full formal style for the warlord who commands the whole horde. They work for D&D 5e, Pathfinder goblinoids, and any grim military fantasy setting.
