Goetia Name Generator

The Goetia is the first book of the Lemegeton, or Lesser Key of Solomon, a 17th-century grimoire that catalogues 72 spirits King Solomon is said to have bound in a brass vessel. Each entry gives a name, an infernal rank (King, Duke, Prince, Marquis, President, Earl, or Knight), the number of legions the spirit commands, its appearance when summoned, and the offices it can perform, from teaching astronomy to finding treasure. Most of the names are far older than the book: Bael and Astaroth descend from the Canaanite gods Baal and Astarte, Amon from the Egyptian Amun, and Asmoday from the Persian demon Aeshma.

Because the list was copied by hand for centuries, spellings drifted. Johann Weyer's 1577 Pseudomonarchia Daemonum has Pruflas, who vanished from later versions, and gives Paymon, Sytry, and Byleth where the Lemegeton has Paimon, Sitri, and Beleth. This generator includes the standard 72, each name a second time with its rank as the grimoire presents it, the older variant spellings, the four cardinal kings (Amaymon, Corson, Ziminiar, Goap), and the six chief spirits of the Grand Grimoire.

The Goetic names have become a shared vocabulary for fiction: Paimon in Hereditary, Stolas and Andrealphus in Helluva Boss, Dantalion in Bungo Stray Dogs, and dozens of them in Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. Rank plus name (Duke Astaroth, Marquis Marchosias) is the recognizable format.
