The richest source of fallen angel names is the Book of Enoch, which names the Watchers (Grigori): two hundred angels who descended on Mount Hermon, took human wives, and taught forbidden arts. Their leaders are listed by name, and each has a crime attached. Semyaza swore the oath that bound them; Azazel taught weapon-making and cosmetics; Baraqiel taught astrology, Kokabiel the constellations, Penemue writing, Gadreel the blows of death, Armaros the undoing of enchantments, Shamsiel the signs of the sun. That pairing of name and transgression is a ready-made character sheet.

The second source is Christian literature. Milton's Paradise Lost gives Lucifer his court of Beelzebub, Moloch, Belial, Mammon, Chemosh, Thammuz, Dagon, and Rimmon, most of them Canaanite gods recast as rebels; the loyal Ithuriel, Zephon, Abdiel, and Zophiel are usually 'fallen' in modern retellings. Judeo-Christian angelology supplies the more melancholy figures such as Cassiel, angel of tears, and Dumah, angel of silence, who often appear in fiction as angels who fell through grief rather than pride.

Because nearly all traditional angel names end in -el ('of God') or -iel, a fallen angel name that keeps the ending signals that the character remembers what they were. Original constructions such as Lachrymel or Nocturiel and epithets like 'of the Broken Halo' follow the same grammar. Feminine forms (Sarielle, Kokabielle, Semyara) are modern but common in urban fantasy and romance.
