Fey Name Generator

'Fey' covers everything from a thumb-sized sprite to an archfey who rules a season, so fey names range just as widely. The playful end of the spectrum, the pixies, sprites, and brownies of Shakespeare and English folklore, uses names built from small natural things: Peaseblossom, Cobweb, Mustardseed, Thimbletoe Bright, Honeybell Sprig. D&D's Feywild adds descriptive 'thing-on-thing' names like Dew-on-Reed or Moth-on-Moon, which sound like a title translated from a language with no proper nouns.

The courtly end draws on Celtic myth. The Irish sidhe and Welsh Tylwyth Teg gave us Aoibheall, Cliodhna, Finvarra, Oonagh, Gwyn ap Nudd, and Rhiannon, and those sounds (soft consonants, long vowels, names that look harder to say than they are) underpin most modern Seelie and Unseelie court naming. Invented court names like Rhoswen Duskthorn or Lorcan Ashvane follow the same pattern. Archfey and fey lords are often known only by title, because true names have power: the Prince of Frost, the Queen of Air and Darkness, the Erlking. Official D&D archfey such as Hyrsam, Zybilna, Verenestra, and Neifion round out the list.

The darker fey of British folklore have their own register: Jenny Greenteeth, Black Annis, Redcap Bloody-Boots, Peg Powler. These names are blunt and physical, which makes them frightening. Choose the register that fits your fey's court, size, and temperament.
