Void elves, or ren'dorei ('children of the void' in Thalassian), are the Alliance's blood-elf-descended race added in World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth. They began as Magister Umbric's exiles, blood elves cast out of Silvermoon for studying the Void, transformed on Telogrus Rift and taken in by Alleria Windrunner. That history is the key to their names: a void elf was born a high elf or blood elf, so their names follow the same Thalassian conventions as Silvermoon, not something newly invented.

Thalassian given names are melodic and multi-syllabic, often ending in -iel, -ion, -riel, -ith, -ara or -andra: Alleria, Vereesa, Kael'thas, Halduron, Rommath, Thalyssra. Surnames are compound English words tied to the sun and light in blood elf culture (Sunstrider, Brightwing, Dawnblade, Lightbringer). Void elves inherit that pattern but many have taken new surnames or altered old ones to reflect their transformation, swapping sun and dawn for dusk, night, void, rift and shadow. Umbric's followers may keep their old Silvermoon surname as an act of defiance, or drop it as a symbol of exile.

A good void elf name pairs a graceful Thalassian given name with a surname that hints at the whispers of the Void without sounding like a death knight or a warlock title. WoW allows names of 2 to 12 letters with one apostrophe, so shorter given names travel better as usernames.
