WoW Pet Name Generator

A WoW pet name is on screen constantly, floating over your wolf or cat in every dungeon and raid, so it doubles as part of your character's identity. Hunters tend to name in one of a few registers: lore-flavoured compounds that sound like a tame from the wild (Duskhowl, Emberfang, Thunderhoof), names borrowed from Azeroth itself (zones like Sholazar and Nagrand, loa like Bwonsamdi and Pa'ku, world trees like Nordrassil), faction noises for comedy (Zugzug, Lok'tar, Mrglglgl), and the group-chat jokes everyone recognises (Aggro, Healbot, Misdirect, Corpserun). The rare and spirit beast names players hunt for, like Loque'nahak, Skoll, Gondria and Arcturis, are worth knowing too, since many hunters keep those or riff on them.

Match the name to the family. Mechanicals suit gnomish tinker names (Sprocket, Fizzcrank, Clockwerk), undead tames want crypt and plague words (Ghoulbane, Blightfang), devilsaurs and clefthooves want something heavy (Behemoth, Magnataur), while a tiny battle pet rabbit is funnier as Lord Fuzzybottom or Biscuit than as Skullsplitter.

The game also sets hard limits. Hunter pet names are letters only, no spaces, numbers or punctuation, and capped at 16 characters, so Loque'nahak becomes Loquenahak and Sir Fluffington becomes SirFluffington. Battle pets renamed through the Pet Journal are more forgiving, which is where the two-word and titled names shine.
