Weapon Shop Name Generator

A weapon shop in a fantasy town is named the way real medieval trades were. The most common form is the hanging sign: customers who could not read found the shop by its painted board, which is why so many armories are called The Crossed Blades, The Notched Axe or The Quiet Quiver. The second form is the owner and the trade, as in Hadrick Vane, Bladesmith or Thistlewood & Daughters, Bowyers, which says at once that the place is old, family-run and proud of its work. The third is a place name plus a trade word (Ironvale Arms, Northgate Arsenal), which suits a larger outfitter supplying a garrison rather than one adventurer.

The trade words carry real distinctions. A bladesmith forges blades, a cutler finishes and sells them, a bowyer makes bows, a fletcher makes arrows, an armourer works plate and mail, and an arsenal or armory stores arms for a fighting force. Gunsmiths and powder sellers belong to later eras and fit steampunk, Western or modern game settings; plasma, railgun and orbital depots are the sci-fi equivalent.
