Dwarven smiths in D&D pair a Norse given name with a forge-flavored clan name (Thorin Ironbeard, Dagna Ironquench), while human village smiths in medieval settings sound like Garrick Ironhand or Alys Tongsworth, sturdy names with a metal or fire word tucked in.

Forge names follow tavern-sign logic: two nouns joined by an ampersand (Anvil & Ember, Hearth & Hammer), a family business (Brightforge & Sons, Slagg & Daughters), a landmark (Millbrook Forge, Furnace Street Smithy), or a single compound word like Stormforge. Both sections above are meant to be mixed: name your smith first, then hang a sign that fits.
