About bg3 githyanki names
Githyanki names are built to sound like a challenge. In Baldur's Gate 3 you meet Lae'zel, Kith'rak Voss, Ghustil Stornugoss and the lich-queen Vlaakith, and every one of those names shares the same DNA: hard consonant clusters (k, th, zh, gh), short syllables, and a glottal stop marked by an apostrophe. The apostrophe is not decoration. In the Gith tongue it marks a hitch in the breath, so Lae'zel is spoken as two sharp pieces rather than one flowing word. Names rarely run past three syllables and almost never end in soft vowels.
Rank matters as much as the personal name. Githyanki are addressed by their station inside the crèche: Kith'rak (a knight-captain commanding ten warriors), Sarth (a warrior-trainer), Ghustil (a healer), Varsh (a crèche keeper), Ch'r'ai (a wizard) and Gish (a fighter-mage). Supreme Commander sits above them all, answering only to Vlaakith. Fifth Edition source books add classic examples such as Elirdain, Kar'i'nas, Fenelzi'ir and Zar'ryth, and BG3 follows the same conventions closely.
A good githyanki name should feel abrupt and unapologetic. Pair a clipped personal name with a rank if the character serves the crèche, or leave it bare for a renegade who follows Orpheus rather than the lich-queen.
