Supreme Kai Name Generator
Kaioshin names for Dragon Ball gods of creation
Generate Supreme Kai names in the Dragon Ball style: every canon Kaioshin from Shin and Gowasu to the twelve universes' Kais of Super, plus original names built the same way – short, clipped deity names from world mythology, archaic Japanese honorific endings like Gowasu and Zamasu, and Kibito-style attendant names for OCs, Xenoverse and fanfiction.
About Supreme Kai names
Supreme Kais (Kaioshin) are Dragon Ball's gods of creation, and their names follow looser rules than the Saiyan vegetable puns or Namekian snail jokes. In Z the Kais are named by compass point – East Supreme Kai, West Supreme Kai, Grand Supreme Kai, with King Kai as North Kai a rank below – and only Shin (readable as 'god' in Japanese) and his attendant Kibito, from tsukibito, 'attendant', carry personal names. Super then gave each of the twelve universes a Supreme Kai with a short two-syllable name that fans trace to world mythology: Ea (Babylonian), Ogma (Celtic), Anato (Anat), Agu (Agni), plus Iru, Kuru, Pell, Rou, Khai and Fuwa.
Universe 10 is the odd one out. Gowasu and his apprentice Zamasu take their names from archaic Japanese polite verb endings – gowasu is a Kagoshima-dialect copula, zamasu a snobbish Tokyo one – which is why the pair sound like nobody else in the series. Chronoa, the Supreme Kai of Time from Xenoverse, simply clips Chronos.
The list opens with every canon Kai, then adds originals in those three styles: clipped names of lesser-known deities from Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Norse, Celtic, Slavic, Yoruba, Aztec and Japanese myth, formal-speech names in the Gowasu and Zamasu pattern, and attendant names built like Kibito for a Kai's bodyguard, plus a few title forms.
How to choose Supreme Kai names
- Clip, don't copy: Toriyama uses Ea and Ogma outright because they're obscure – a Supreme Kai called Zeus or Odin breaks the tone, but Sekhu (Sekhmet) or Njoru (Njord) fits.
- Two syllables ending in a vowel is the Super standard (Fuwa, Kuru, Pell is the one-syllable exception); save three-syllable names for elders or a Grand Supreme Kai.
- Want the Universe 10 flavour? Borrow a real archaic or dialect verb ending – Gozasu, Arinsu, Zansu, Sourou – so the name sounds like formal speech, as Gowasu and Zamasu do.
- Attendants are a species of their own: give a Kibito-style bodyguard a name from a Japanese word for follower or servant (Otomo, Kerai, Zuiin) rather than a deity name.
- For a Xenoverse or fanfic OC, decide the universe first – a Kai of Universe 7 shares a world with Shin and Old Kai, so avoid names that clash with theirs in sound.
Frequently asked questions
What are the canon Supreme Kai names in Dragon Ball?
In Z: Shin (East Supreme Kai), Kibito, Old Kai (Elder Kai), the Grand Supreme Kai and the unnamed North, West and South Supreme Kais. In Super the twelve universes have Anato, Pell, Ea, Kuru, Ogma, Fuwa, Shin, Iru, Rou, Gowasu, Khai and Agu, plus Zamasu as Gowasu's apprentice. Xenoverse adds Chronoa, the Supreme Kai of Time. Lower Kais include King Kai (North Kai), the East, West and South Kais and the Grand Kai.
What are Supreme Kai names based on?
There is no single theme like the Saiyans' vegetables. Shin reads as 'god', Kibito comes from tsukibito (attendant), and the Super Kais are widely read as clipped deity names – Ea, Ogma, Anat, Agni. Gowasu and Zamasu come from archaic Japanese polite verb endings, and Chronoa from Chronos.
Do Supreme Kais have surnames or family names?
No. Kais are a single species, the Shin-jin, born from the fruit of the Kaiju tree on the planet Kaishin; they use one personal name plus their office (Supreme Kai of Universe 6) and direction or rank titles like East Supreme Kai and Grand Supreme Kai.
Can I use these for a Xenoverse character or fanfic?
Yes. The original names are free to use for Xenoverse and Legends builds, roleplay, fan art and fanfiction. Canon names such as Shin, Gowasu and Zamasu belong to Bird Studio, Shueisha and Toei, so reserve those for the characters themselves.
