The most famous sniper names in history were given by enemies and comrades, not chosen. Finnish sniper Simo Häyhä became White Death to the Soviets. Carlos Hathcock was White Feather for the plume he wore in his bush hat. Lyudmila Pavlichenko was Lady Death, and Chris Kyle was called the Legend by his own SEAL teammates and the Devil of Ramadi by insurgents. The pattern is a colour or a quiet object paired with something lethal, or a straightforward epithet that describes what the person does at range.

Modern sniper callsigns work differently. On the radio a sniper team is usually a phonetic letter and a number (Sierra One, Reaper Six), and the personal nickname lives inside the platoon. Those nicknames tend to come from the trade itself: birds of prey and ambush predators (Kestrel, Shrike, Mamba, Mantis), rifle and optic terminology (Crosshair, Mil-Dot, Cold Bore, Windage), concealment (Ghillie, Bracken, Frost, Whiteout), and the virtue of waiting (Patience, Vigil, Still). Video games from Call of Duty to Rainbow Six and Tarkov borrow the same vocabulary, which is why they feel authentic.

The list mixes historical-style epithets, radio-format callsigns, and trade nicknames. Pick a radio callsign for dialogue and a nickname for character, and let the enemy give the epithet.
