Ratfolk Name Generator

Ratfolk names work best when they sound like something a rat could actually say: short, front-loaded with clicks and hisses, and over fast. Pathfinder's ysoki set the template with given names like Aliskeh, Kotchi, Raskiri, Tiskim and Vorsk, built on sk, tch, kk and zz sounds with light vowels. Warhammer's Skaven push the same phonology into menace (Queek, Skrittar, Thanquol) and add a boastful epithet or clan-style surname (Headtaker, Warpsnout, Gnawtooth). Wererats and city-warren rats in D&D tend instead toward human thieves' cant nicknames: Nibs, Scritch, Twitch, Tallow, Pipewhistle.

Surnames usually describe where a rat lives or what it does rather than ancestry. Burrow and tunnel words (Underwall, Draintunnel, Cellarby), scavenged materials (Coppertooth, Scrapwhisker, Rustmaw), food (Cheeserind, Grainthief, Currant) and the rat's own body (Ninetails, Greywhisk, Pinkpaw) all fit. Cozy, Redwall-flavored settings swap the grime for herb and bird names like Tansy, Sorrel, Linnet and Wren.

This list mixes all of those registers so you can build a whole warren: a chittering ysoki tinkerer, a scarred Skaven-style warlord, a respectable guild wererat and the granny who runs the grain cellar, each sounding like they belong to the same species but not the same street.
