Phantom Thief Name Generator

A phantom thief (kaitou in Japanese) is not a burglar but a performer: they announce the heist with a calling card, steal in front of an audience and vanish without a trace. The name is part of the act, which is why the genre has such distinct conventions. Japanese kaitou take a title plus a short alias, usually a colour, animal, gem or celestial word: Kaitou Kid, Kaitou Jeanne, Phantom Thief Sapphire. The Western gentleman-thief tradition that started with Arsène Lupin and A. J. Raffles prefers an elegant full name that sounds like old money (Lucien Devereaux, Vivienne Starling) plus a single public epithet the newspapers use.

Persona 5 popularised a third style: each Phantom Thief of Hearts takes a one-word code name that reflects their mask and personality, such as Joker, Skull, Panther, Fox, Queen, Oracle, Noir, Crow and Violet. Good code names in this mould are short, concrete nouns with an edge: animals, playing cards, tarot arcana, gems, weather, stage and theatre words. They should be easy to shout across a palace and impossible to trace to a real identity.

This generator mixes all three registers with a few canon names for reference, plus French, Italian, Spanish and German aliases (Le Renard Blanc, Corvo Nero, Sombra Plateada) for thieves who work the European circuit.
