Code Name Generator

A good code name hides what it names. The US Secret Service gives each protectee a word that says nothing about them: Renegade, Rawhide, Lancer, Timberwolf, with a family sharing the same first letter. Wartime planners did the same with Overlord, Neptune and Torch, and tech companies still pick words like Longhorn or Cheetah so a leaked memo reveals nothing. The rule of thumb from British intelligence was that a name should never boast or hint at the target, which is why the best ones are concrete, slightly odd nouns rather than words like Thunderstrike.

The names here follow that logic. You will find single words drawn from birds, tools, weather, stone and old trades (Kestrel, Whetstone, Mistral, Basalt, Lamplighter), two-word pairings that sound like classified folders (Silent Harbor, Crimson Ledger, Broken Clock), plain place names used the way MI6 and the CIA once used them, and a smaller set with the Project or Operation prefix attached. Numbered callsigns such as Raven One and Cobalt Eleven are included for radio chatter.
