Nosferatu Name Generator

Nosferatu is the old word for the vampire as a thing of rot and plague rather than romance. F. W. Murnau's 1922 film renamed Dracula as Count Orlok and moved his victims to the German town of Wisborg, and that choice set the template: a harsh Carpathian name (Orlok, with its hard k) surrounded by plain Biedermeier German names like Thomas and Ellen Hutter, Knock, Harding and Professor Bulwer. Herzog's 1979 remake restored the Stoker names; Robert Eggers' 2024 version kept Orlok and added Friedrich and Anna Harding, Herr Knock and Professor Albin Eberhart von Franz. A good Nosferatu name lives in that gap between the foreign count and the townsfolk he feeds on.

For the vampire himself, look to Romanian, Hungarian, Serbian, Czech and Polish surnames, titles like Voivode, Boyar, Knez, Graf and Margrave, and single guttural names that sound like a cough in a crypt. Folklore supplies its own vocabulary: strigoi, moroi, nachzehrer, vrykolakas, upyr. In Vampire: The Masquerade the Nosferatu are the hideous sewer-dwelling clan, and they tend to drop their mortal names for handles like Gary Golden, Mitnick and Imalia.
