D&D Vampire Name Generator

Vampire names in Dungeons & Dragons take their cue from Ravenloft, the gothic horror setting where Strahd von Zarovich rules Barovia. Barovian names blend Romanian, Slavic, and Hungarian sounds: Ismark Kolyanovich, Ireena Kolyana, Ludmilla Vilisevic, Rahadin, Escher. Given names like Vasilka, Dragomir, and Ilinca sit next to surnames ending in -escu, -ova, -ovich, or -ski, and the effect is immediately recognizable as the D&D vampire register. Old vampires almost always carry a title, because they were nobles when they died and have had centuries to acquire more: Count, Countess, Voivode, Boyar, Margravine.

Beyond Barovia, vampire names in D&D borrow from wider gothic fiction. Italian and French noble names (Lucrezia Bellandi, Armand Delacroix) suit decadent city vampires; German and Hungarian names (Wilhelm von Rabenstein, Erszebet Nadasdy) suit ancient castle-dwellers; and English gothic names (Lenore Vantis, Ambrose Vane) fit vampires who pass as living aristocracy. Vampires who have outlived their names are known by epithets and titles instead: the Widow of Vallaki, the Bloodless Marquis, Radu Nine-Coffins.

A vampire spawn usually keeps its mortal name, so a spawn's name should be ordinary for the region while the master's name should be grand, dated, and slightly foreign. That contrast is one of the easiest ways to make a vampire NPC feel old.
