Military Faction Name Generator

A military faction name does more than label an army: it tells the audience who these people think they are. History offers a handful of reliable templates. State militaries sound institutional (National Defense Force, Republican Guard, Bundeswehr, Strategic Rocket Forces). Revolutionaries name themselves after the cause and the word front, army or liberation (National Liberation Front, People's Liberation Army, Free Syrian Army). Juntas and coups hide behind councils and committees (Revolutionary Command Council, Committee of Public Safety). Elite guard corps borrow prestige from history (Praetorian Guard, Varangian Guard, Immortals, Janissaries), and grassroots fighters often end up known by a nickname based on clothing or origin: Redcoats, Blackshirts, Roundheads, Green Mountain Boys, Peshmerga.

For invented worlds, the same rules apply with your setting's vocabulary swapped in. A colour or material plus a unit word (Crimson Guard, Iron Legion) reads as an old, proud force; a place name plus Front, Compact or Uprising (Ember Coast Uprising, Sable Compact) reads as a regional rebellion; a bureaucratic label like Interim Security Directorate reads as sinister and state-backed. Science-fiction factions usually scale the geography up: Orbital Defense Command, Outer Rim Alliance, Belt Separatist Navy.
