Jaeger Name Generator

Every Jaeger in Pacific Rim follows the same rule: two words, no more, no less. The first word is evocative and usually a noun or adjective with some colour or geography to it (Gipsy, Crimson, Cherno, Coyote, Striker); the second word is a punchy military, mythic or radio-alphabet term (Danger, Typhoon, Alpha, Tango, Eureka). Guillermo del Toro's designers wanted names that a Shatterdome marshal could bark over an intercom, and that discipline is what makes them sound real. Notice how many second words are NATO phonetic letters or callsign material: Alpha, Bravo, Tango, Romeo, Ajax, Eureka.

The nationality of the Jaeger's Shatterdome often leaks into the name. Cherno Alpha is Russian (Cherno from chyorny, black), Crimson Typhoon is Chinese, Striker Eureka is Australian, Coyote Tango and Gipsy Danger are American, and Puma Real and Diablo Intercept come from Latin American programs. Uprising kept the formula with Saber Athena, Bracer Phoenix, Guardian Bravo and Titan Redeemer, adding a heavier dose of classical mythology.

When inventing a Jaeger, resist the urge to stack three or four powerful-sounding words. Pick one word for character or origin, one word for punch, and stop. The names above mix the full canon roster with originals built on region names, metals, myths and phonetic-alphabet callsigns.
