Transformers Name Generator

Transformers names are compound nouns. Since 1984 Hasbro and Takara have named nearly every Autobot and Decepticon by welding two ordinary English words into one: Ironhide, Bumblebee, Starscream, Soundwave, Wheeljack, Cliffjumper, Sideswipe, Skywarp. The first half usually describes the material, element or environment (iron, sky, sound, star), the second half describes an action, part or trait (hide, warp, wave, scream). Single-word names also work when the word is a vehicle part, weapon or maneuver, which is why Ratchet, Prowl, Jazz, Hound, Blitzwing and Scourge all feel right.

Faction and function change the vocabulary. Autobots draw from tools, safety and cars (Hoist, Grapple, Red Alert, Trailbreaker); Decepticons draw from menace and destruction (Bonecrusher, Ravage, Shockwave, Motormaster). Seekers use weather and flight words, Constructicons use construction jobs, and combiners and city-bots take Latin or Greek-style names like Devastator, Bruticus, Superion, Metroplex and Trypticon. Beast-mode characters use animal or hunting words: Razorclaw, Divebomb, Cheetor, Waspinator.

Every name in this list is original but built to that formula, so it sits naturally next to canon names in a fanfic, a roleplay roster or a custom toy line. Pick by faction and job first, then by sound.
