Grung Name Generator

Grung are the small, brightly colored, poisonous frog-folk introduced in Volo's Guide to Monsters and made playable in the One Grung Above supplement. Neither book gives an official name list, so the community convention is to write grung names the way a frog would say them: short bursts of croaks and clicks with doubled consonants and rolled Rs. Krrik, Glorb, Tchak, Kwaak and Ribbat are the model. Apostrophes and hyphens mark the glottal stop between throat pulses (Ta'kwa, Tuk-Tuk).

Grung society is a rigid caste system marked by skin color, and that shapes how names get used. Green grung are the common warriors and hunters, blue are artisans and domestic workers, purple are supervisors, red are scholars and magic users, orange are elite warriors, and gold are the rulers. Lower castes typically go by a single croak. Higher-ranking grung add a tribe or pool name (Glorb Ta'kwa, Krrek Goldthroat), and a gold grung chieftain might carry a longer chanted name that lower castes are forbidden to say aloud.

A good grung name should be pronounceable at the table but sound alien in the mouth. Aim for one or two syllables built from K, R, G, B and hard T sounds, double the middle consonant, and let the tribe name be a two-part word with an apostrophe.
