Generate Dragon Ball Super style names for Gods of Destruction and their Angel attendants: Destroyers such as Stoutus, Zinfan and Mezkal, Angels such as Mimoza, Amaretta and Ginjo, paired sets like Kaberne & Dakiri, titled forms like Lord Lagerus, and the twelve canon pairs from Beerus and Whis onward.

About God of Destruction names

In Dragon Ball Super every universe has a God of Destruction and an Angel who attends and trains that god, and both are named from one source: a kind of alcoholic drink, lightly respelled. Beerus is beer, Champa is champagne, Quitela is tequila with its sounds shuffled, Belmod is vermouth, Sidra is cider, Rumsshi is rum, Liquiir is liqueur and Giin is gin. The Angels follow the rule in a softer voice: Whis from whisky, Vados from calvados, then Marcarita, Cognac and Mojito.

This list carries the rule on to universes beyond the canon twelve. Destroyer names come from beer styles (Stoutus, Dunkelo), wines and grapes (Merlok, Zinfan), spirits (Grappus, Mezkal), regional drinks and sake (Sakeru). Angel names lean on cocktails, liqueurs and lighter wines (Mimoza, Kurasao, Chardonne, Rozei). Each drink word is used once for a Destroyer and at most once for an Angel, so no name is a second spelling of another.

Around 160 Destroyers and 180 Angels stand alone. The rest are paired sets with one Destroyer and one Angel to a universe (Kaberne & Dakiri), titled forms such as Lord Lagerus, Burbon the Destroyer and Kosmopol, Angel of Universe 27, and twelve candidates. The twelve canon pairs, the Grand Priest, Merus and Toppo are included as anchors.

How to choose God of Destruction names

  • Start from a kind of drink and change one thing. Add an ending (Stoutus), respell it by sound (Merlok), or clip it (Zinfan). If a reader cannot hear the source any more, the pun is gone.
  • Name the pair together. A hard, heavy Destroyer name beside a lighter Angel name sounds right at once, as in Charand & Kolada or Kaberne & Dakiri.
  • Use Lord for the Destroyer, the way the series says Lord Beerus. Angels are usually called by name alone, so Attendant Sima or Angel Rislin works best in narration and on a character sheet.
  • Number a new universe 13 or higher. The series has twelve universes, so Ryeus, God of Destruction of Universe 13 or Lord Malbek of Universe 14 will not collide with a canon god.
  • Build your own puns on kinds of drink such as styles, grapes and cocktails, and leave brand names alone. Say the result aloud to be sure it is not an awkward word in a language your readers speak.

Frequently asked questions

How are Gods of Destruction named in Dragon Ball?

Each name is a pun on an alcoholic drink. Beerus comes from beer, Champa from champagne, Quitela from tequila, Sidra from cider and Giin from gin, and the drink is only the source of the wordplay, never the character's theme. The new names here are made the same way, for example Stoutus from stout, Mezkal from mezcal and Sakeru from sake.

Which names in the list are canon?

Twenty-seven. The twelve Destroyers are Iwne, Heles, Mosco, Quitela, Arak, Champa, Beerus, Liquiir, Sidra, Rumsshi, Belmod and Giin, and their Angels are Awamo, Sour, Camparri, Cognac, Cukatail, Vados, Whis, Korn, Mojito, Cus, Marcarita and Martinu, with the Grand Priest, Merus and Toppo. Spellings differ between translations (Giin is also written Geene and Cus is also written Kusu), so the list keeps one for each. Every other name is new, and a new god's universe, rank and power are yours to decide.

Are Angel names different from Destroyer names?

They come from the same source but sound lighter. Canon Angels are mostly cocktails and spirits, such as Marcarita, Mojito and Cognac, so the Angels in this list lean the same way: Mimoza, Paloma, Amaretta, Kurasao and Ginjo. Softer endings also help, as in Saisonne, Merlotte and Bourbelle.

What is a Destroyer candidate?

A candidate is a mortal in line to succeed a universe's God of Destruction. Toppo of Universe 11 is the canon example. The list has twelve candidate names, such as Candidate Skotto and Destroyer Candidate Brandur, for a rival or successor in your own universe.
