Funny Last Name Generator

A funny last name works because it looks like it could be real. English surnames were built from places, trades, fathers' names and nicknames, and every one of those sources can be pushed a notch too far: a place name becomes Picklesworth or Muddlecombe, a trade becomes Crumpetmonger, a nickname becomes Wobblebottom. The comic surnames of Dickens, Wodehouse and Roald Dahl (Snodgrass, Fink-Nottle, Wormwood) all follow that rule, which is why they are funny out loud and still believable on an envelope. Keep the shape of a real surname and only the contents silly.

Pair a funny surname with a plain first name for the best effect: Gary Picklesworth is funnier than Bartholomew Picklesworth because the contrast does the work.
