Funny Gnome Name Generator

Gnome names are already a little funny by design. In Dungeons & Dragons, gnomes collect nicknames from every relative, so official examples read like Zook Oneshoe, Namfoodle Stumbleduck, and Boddynock Doublelock; World of Warcraft gnomes have surnames like Sprocketbottom and Fizzlebang; and garden gnomes have inherited a whole tradition of puns on the word itself, from Gnomeo to Sherlock Gnomes to Gnome Chomsky. A funny gnome name usually plays one of three angles: a pompous full name that doesn't match a two-foot-tall person (Bartholomew Bumblewhack), a surname built from two ordinary words that shouldn't go together (Wafflethorpe, Pocketlint), or a straight pun on gnome or a famous person's name.

The trick is restraint. A name like Fizzwick Sprocketbottom is funny because it sounds like something a gnome parent would sincerely choose; a name that is only nonsense syllables gets old after one session. Names that describe a quirk (Backwards Bert, Two-Hats Tobbin) give the character something to play at the table, and food and hardware nicknames (Turnip, Doorknob, Crumpet) work well for gnome NPCs a party meets once and never forgets.

Use the pun names for garden gnomes and gag NPCs, the pompous names for comic player characters, and the D&D-style names when you want funny but still fitting.
