Fire Emblem Weapon Name Generator
Forge names for swords, lances, axes and tomes
Generate Fire Emblem weapon names for a forged weapon, a ROM hack, a fan game or a tabletop campaign: 1,000 names in the patterns of the series, from regalia like Brynmere and Sunderlance to Vesper Bow, Gallowglass Axe, Asagiri Katana and tomes like Arcfrost. A small share are series weapons marked (canon) and real names from legend marked (legend).
About Fire Emblem weapon names
Fire Emblem names its weapons in two registers. The regalia borrow from legend: Durandal is Roland's sword, Tyrfing and Mystletainn come from Norse saga, and Areadbhar is a spear of Irish myth. The common arms say what they are made of and what they do: an Iron Sword, a Killing Edge that raises critical hits, a Brave Lance that strikes twice, an Armorslayer for armored foes.
This list of 1,000 names follows both. One-word names such as Brynmere, Aldspire and Hroldan are built like regalia and fit a short forge name box. Typed names show the weapon: Vesper Bow, Gallowglass Axe, Staff of the Quiet Chapel. Tomes stack a prefix on an element the way the series does (Elfrost, Arcgale, Rexshade), trick weapons put new head words on the Killer, Brave and Slayer patterns (Reaping Edge, Intrepid Axe, Golemslayer), and the eastern arms pair a real Japanese word with a katana, naginata, yumi or shuriken, as in Asagiri Katana (morning mist).
Lances, axes, bows, tomes and staves together outnumber the swords, so every class has something to carry. Twenty-four entries are weapons from the games, marked (canon), and sixteen are real names from legend, marked (legend). The rest are originals in the style of the series, plus a few joke names like Leek Lance.
How to choose Fire Emblem weapon names
- Check the length first. A forge name box is short, so keep a few one-word names such as Oathmere, Rimehew or Elquake ready and save the longer titles for fan fiction, ROM hacks and tabletop play.
- Match the pattern to the weapon's job. A high-critical forge suits a Killer-style name like Culling Lance, and a weapon that is effective against one kind of unit reads best as a slayer or a bane, such as Griffonslayer or Knightsbane.
- Name for the wielder's class and nation. Hoshidan-style units suit Kogarashi Yumi or Tenma Naginata, while knights and wyvern riders suit western names like Falcon Knight's Lance or Wyvern Lord's Bardiche.
- For a personal weapon, swap in your own character's name. The possessive entries, like Corwenna's Tome or Maelgar's Axe, use original hero names as placeholders.
- Entries marked (canon) are already weapons in the games. Treat them as style guides, and pick an original if your ROM hack or fan game should have regalia of its own.
Frequently asked questions
Can you rename weapons in Fire Emblem?
Some games in the series let you type a custom name when you forge a weapon, and Fates is one of them. The name box is short, which is why a good share of this list is a single short word such as Brynmere, Soothe or Arcfrost. The longer names suit fan games, ROM hacks, tabletop campaigns and fan fiction.
Are these official Fire Emblem weapons?
The twenty-four entries marked (canon), such as Falchion (canon) and Brave Lance (canon), are weapons from the games. The sixteen entries marked (legend), such as Hrunting (legend), are real names from myth and romance. The rest were written as originals in the style of the series, but the games and spin-offs hold hundreds of weapons, so look a name up on a fan wiki if it matters that it is new. This page is a fan resource with no affiliation with Nintendo or Intelligent Systems.
What do the Japanese weapon names mean?
Each one pairs a real Japanese word with a weapon type. Asagiri is morning mist, Inazuma is lightning, Kogarashi is the cold wind of late autumn and Hatsuyuki is the first snow of the season, so Hatsuyuki Katana reads as First Snow Katana. Katana, naginata, yumi and shuriken are the sword, polearm, bow and throwing blade that Hoshido, the eastern-style kingdom of Fates, carries.
How do Fire Emblem tome names work?
The series often names a stronger spell by putting a prefix on a weaker one, as in Fire, Elfire and Arcfire, and keeps single dramatic words like Thoron and Bolganone for the top of a line. The list does the same with new elements: Elfrost, Arcfrost and Rexfrost form a ladder, and Ignivar or Fulgoron work as capstone spells. Dark and light tomes use book words, as in Sunless Codex and Whitefire Psalter.
