Generate Fire Emblem names that fit the series' European-flavored style: iconic canon characters from Marth to Alear, original names for your avatar or OC, Three Houses-style noble full names, class-titled units and epithets like Raynor the Ironclad. Useful for Engage, Three Houses, Heroes, fan fiction and tabletop campaigns.

About Fire Emblem names

Fire Emblem names follow a pattern that has held since the first game in 1990: most characters go by a single given name drawn from European history, saints' calendars and Arthurian or Norse legend, then gently reshaped. Marth, Sigurd, Eliwood, Hector, Lyn, Ike, Chrom, Lucina and Edelgard all sound like they could have walked out of a medieval chronicle, while the localization team adds a few invented ones like Nephenee, Lysithea or Yunaka that keep the same rhythm. Surnames are rare and mark nobility; Three Houses made the style explicit with names like Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd and Lorenz Hellman Gloucester, and Fates borrowed Japanese names for Hoshido to contrast with Nohr's Xander and Camilla.

A good original Fire Emblem name is usually two or three syllables, stressed on the first, with soft Romance or Germanic endings: -ine, -ard, -wen, -ric, -elle, -ald. If you need a lord, add a house or homeland; if you need a recruitable unit, pick a class and a first name and let the support conversations do the rest.

This generator gives you canon characters across every game as reference, hundreds of original names for avatars and OCs, noble full names in the Fodlan style, class-titled units and epithets in the Heroes tradition.

How to choose Fire Emblem names

  • For an avatar name that fits next to Robin, Corrin, Byleth and Alear, choose something short and gender-neutral with a soft ending, such as Rowan, Kestrel, Ivo or Maelis, rather than a long noble name.
  • Match the region: Germanic names like Dietrich and Adelheid read as the Adrestian Empire or Bern, French ones like Delphine and Thibault suit Firene or Etruria, Norse names like Halvard and Solveig fit Faerghus or Daein, and Japanese names belong in Hoshido or Chon'sin.
  • Give nobles a house: a two- or three-part name such as Ottoline von Ostheim or Lucan Ansel Ravenholt instantly signals rank in a Three Houses-style setting, while commoners keep a single name.
  • Use class titles and epithets sparingly; one Sage Aldemar or Raynor the Ironclad per army is flavorful, but listing every unit that way makes a roster read like a Heroes banner.
  • Canon names are included for reference and for Heroes or support-conversation fan fiction; for an OC you plan to share widely, pick an original so readers do not expect the established character's personality.

Frequently asked questions

Does this generator include real Fire Emblem characters?

Yes. Roughly half the list is canon, covering Archanea, Valentia, Jugdral, Elibe, Magvel, Tellius, Awakening, Fates, Three Houses and Engage, so you can search for a name or use it as a style reference. The other half is original names written in the same register for avatars, OCs and tabletop campaigns.

What should I name my avatar in Three Houses, Engage or Awakening?

The default avatars (Robin, Corrin, Byleth, Alear, Kris) are all short, unisex and slightly unusual, so names like Rowan, Ivo, Kestrel, Oriel or Maelis keep the same feel. Avoid names already used by a main character in that game, since support conversations will read oddly if two Dimitris are in the army.

How do Fire Emblem noble names work?

Most games use single names, but Three Houses follows a given name, optional middle name and house name pattern: Edelgard von Hresvelg, Ferdinand von Aegir, Annette Fantine Dominic. The von marks an Adrestian noble house, while Faerghus and Leicester houses drop it. To invent one, pair an original first name with a house that sounds like a place: Ottoline von Ostheim, Everard Castor Vayle.

Can I use these names for a Fire Emblem-style tabletop or fan game?

The original names, houses, class titles and epithets are free to use in any project. Canon character names belong to Nintendo and Intelligent Systems and are included only as reference, so for published fan games or commercial projects build your cast from the original entries.
