About cult of the lamb names
Cult of the Lamb draws its names from two very different wells, and the mix is what gives the game its personality. On one side are the gods and merchants: Narinder, Leshy, Heket, Kallamar, Shamura, Ratau, Kudaai, Forneus, Clauneck. Several of these are lifted directly from the Ars Goetia, the seventeenth-century catalogue of seventy-two demons (Forneus, Clauneck, Berith, Baal, and Aym are all listed there), which is why the game's deities feel like they belong to an older, darker tradition. If you are naming a bishop, a witch, or a rival cult leader, Goetic names are the most lore-accurate source.
On the other side are the followers. New recruits arrive with mundane, faintly old-fashioned names, and the community loves renaming them to something silly, cute, or cruel. Names like Barnaby, Beatrix, Cornelius, and Wilhelmina fit the woodland-village feel of your base, while nature words (Bramble, Sorrel, Yarrow) and tiny nonsense names (Snib, Nubbin, Gubbins) suit frogs, mushrooms, and other small critters. Massive Monster's own quirky NPCs (Plimbo, Sozo, Shrumy, Flinky, Bop) show how far you can push it.
Use the canon list to check tone, the follower section for your congregation, and the demonic section whenever a name needs to sound like it was whispered from beneath the ground.
Tips for choosing a name
- Match the name to the follower's form: stately names for foxes and owls, nonsense syllables for mushrooms and frogs, Goetic names for anyone you plan to make an elder or bishop.
- If you rename followers you intend to sacrifice, pick names that make it sting a little; the game is funnier when the tragedy is personal.
- For your lamb, one or two syllables read best in dialogue boxes and on the save file. Aym, Nell, Pip, and Silas all work.
- The Ars Goetia demon names are real historical names in the public domain, so they are safe for fan fiction, mods, and stream overlays.
- Avoid Narinder, Leshy, Heket, Kallamar, and Shamura for followers unless you want the joke of a follower sharing a Bishop's name.
Frequently asked questions
Where do the god names in Cult of the Lamb come from?
Several come from the Ars Goetia, a grimoire listing 72 demons: Forneus, Clauneck, Berith, Baal, and Aym are all in it. The four Bishops and Narinder are original creations, and Leshy borrows from the Slavic forest spirit of the same name.
Can you rename followers in Cult of the Lamb?
Yes. Open a follower's info panel from the follower menu or by interacting with them, then choose the rename option to give them any name you like.
What are good names for the lamb itself?
Short names suit the character best. Players often use gentle or ironic choices (Nell, Pip, Clover, Agnus) or lean into the horror with a Goetic name like Aym or Berith.
Are these names free to use in fan content?
The canon character names belong to Massive Monster and Devolver Digital and are fine for fan works under normal fan-content practice. The follower-style and Goetic names are generic or historical and can be used freely.
