Hollow Knight names have a very particular texture. Team Cherry named the bugs of Hallownest with short, soft, faintly Old English words that sound like they could be villagers in a fable: Quirrel, Myla, Bretta, Cornifer, Iselda, Sly, Lemm. Most are one or two syllables and avoid harsh consonant clusters, which makes even a warrior like Tiso or a hermit like Bardoon feel small and gentle. Silksong continues the pattern with Sherma, Shakra, Garmond and Lace.

Above the common bugs sit the titled figures. Masters of the nail take a title before a name (Nailmaster Oro, Nailmaster Mato, Nailmaster Sheo), and the Dreamers pair a name with a role: Lurien the Watcher, Monomon the Teacher, Herrah the Beast. The most powerful beings are known only by a definite article and an epithet, the Pale King, the White Lady, the Radiance, the Hollow Knight, because a true name would make them ordinary. Enemies and bosses are almost always descriptive compounds instead: Vengefly King, Gruz Mother, Brooding Mawlek, Watcher Knight.

When inventing a Hollow Knight OC, decide which tier your character belongs to. A traveler or shopkeeper needs a two-syllable fable name like Prell or Tarrow. A knight of the kingdom deserves a title. A god or ancient force should be The Something. Match the tier and the name will slot into Hallownest as though it had always been carved there.
