About adventure time names
Adventure Time names follow a few loose rules that make the Land of Ooo feel like one place even though it is full of nonsense. Heroes carry plain human names with an epithet attached: Finn the Human, Jake the Dog, Billy the Hero. Royalty is named by the thing it rules, so a new kingdom can be introduced in one line (Hot Dog Princess, Slime Princess, Duke of Nuts, Box Prince). Candy Kingdom citizens are literally what they are made of, often with a courtesy title or job in front: Peppermint Butler, Cinnamon Bun, Colonel Candy Corn, Root Beer Guy.
The show also loves names that sound like a real person who got lost in a fairy tale. Simon Petrikov, Betty Grof, Hunson Abadeer and Randy Butternubs work because the surnames are a notch stranger than ordinary. Wizards are their gimmick plus the word Wizard (Laser Wizard, Huntress Wizard), robots are a few capital letters ending in MO, and cosmic beings get thick, rounded sounds like Glob, Golb, Prismo and Orgalorg.
This generator mixes canon characters from the series and Fionna and Cake with original names in the same conventions, so you can pull a princess for a new kingdom, a candy citizen, a flame elemental or a Nightosphere demon that would not look out of place in an episode.
Tips for choosing a name
- Decide what your character is made of or what they rule, then name them that: the show almost never uses abstract or pretty names, and literal names (Toast Princess, Mr. Cupcake) read as more authentic.
- For a human OC, pick an ordinary first name and a surname that is just slightly off, in the spirit of Petrikov, Mertens, Oiler and Butternubs.
- Use the 'X the Y' epithet format sparingly and for important characters; it is how Ooo marks heroes and legends (Finn the Human, Billy the Hero), not everyday candy folk.
- Robots in Ooo are a short string of capitals ending in MO (BMO, AMO). If you want a Nightosphere demon or Lich-style villain, go the opposite way and use heavy, guttural syllables.
- Princesses of new kingdoms are an easy way to invent a whole location: choose the odd object or substance first (Puddle, Button, Lichen) and the kingdom writes itself.

Are these real Adventure Time character names?
About half are canon characters from the main series, Distant Lands and Fionna and Cake, including Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum, Marceline, Lemongrab, Prismo, Gary Prince and the Winter King. The rest are original names written to follow the same naming patterns so they fit into the Land of Ooo.
How do I name an Adventure Time OC?
Pick a species or kingdom first. Candy people are named for their ingredient (Lady Marzipan, Sir Nougat), royalty is named for what it rules (Moth Princess, Box Prince), humans get a normal first name and a slightly odd surname, and wizards are simply their specialty plus Wizard.
What is the naming pattern for BMO-style robots?
The MO robots are a short run of capital letters ending in MO, such as BMO, AMO and the rest of Moe's creations. For an original robot, choose one or two letters that do not spell a real word and add MO, then give it a nickname if it becomes a main character.
Can I use these names for fan fiction or a D&D game set in Ooo?
Yes. Original names are free to use however you like, and canon names are fine for fan fiction, roleplay and homebrew games. For anything commercial, avoid the trademarked characters and use only the original names.
