Cartoon Character Name Generator

Cartoon character names are engineered to be heard once and remembered forever. The oldest trick is alliteration, which is why so many classic toons pair a first name and surname on the same consonant (think of the Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck pattern). The second is sound: plosive consonants, double letters and nonsense syllables like -oodle, -umble and -izzle make a name feel bouncy even before anyone sees the drawing. A good toon name also describes the character in a single hit, so the nervous one is Fidget, the grouch is Grumbles and the inventor is Fizzwick.

Different roles pull in different directions. Animal characters get a species pun or a matching initial (Hazel Hootsworth, Wally Wombat). Pompous humans get long, stuffy, faintly Victorian names (Bartholomew Bixby, Lady Lavender Puffington). Villains get a title and something gloomy or greedy (Baron Von Gloom, Mayor Moneybags, Count Snackula). Tiny heroes get big adjectives (Mighty Mite, Wonder Tot), and robots and aliens get clanks, beeps and unpronounceable planets.
