Generate VeggieTales style names: characters from the series such as Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber, plus original vegetable and fruit characters like Walter the Turnip, Hattie Peach and Mayor Melon, pea and bean pairs, costume heroes and silly song titles for plays, parties and stories.

About VeggieTales names

VeggieTales names run on one formula: an everyday first name plus the produce the character is. It comes in two forms. The first puts "the" in the middle, as in Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber. The second turns the vegetable into a family name, as in Junior Asparagus, Laura Carrot and Petunia Rhubarb, which lets a whole household share it: Dad Asparagus, Mom Asparagus and Junior. Grown-ups collect honorifics (Pa Grape, Madame Blueberry, Mr. Nezzer), and a hero in costume gets a stage name such as LarryBoy.

This list opens with a reference block of names from the series: characters, a few heroes and villains, and some Silly Songs. It is not a complete cast list, and this site has no connection with the makers of the show. The rest is original and follows the same patterns across a wide spread of produce: "the" forms like Walter the Turnip, surname forms like Hattie Peach, townsfolk like Mayor Melon and Granny Smith Apple, pairs and trios of peas and beans such as Pip and Pod, costume heroes like Captain Kale, storybook roles like Sir Lance-a-Lettuce, and song titles in the silly style.

Every entry is a character or a title, never a bare plant name.

How to choose VeggieTales names

  • Choose the plainest first name you can. The joke is the contrast between an ordinary name like Bob, Hazel or Norm and a vegetable that hops around a kitchen counter.
  • Use the "the" form for a lead character and the surname form for families, so parents, children and cousins can share one vegetable.
  • Give grown-ups a title in place of a first name: Pa, Aunt, Mr., Coach or Mayor tells a young audience at once who is in charge.
  • Cast small produce in groups. Peas, beans and berries work well as pairs, trios or a choir, like The Lima Bean Twins or The Huckleberry Choir.
  • For a class skit or a puppet show, match the produce to what you can build: round fruit and gourds are the easiest costumes and puppets to make.

Frequently asked questions

What are the main VeggieTales character names?

The central cast includes Bob the Tomato, Larry the Cucumber, Junior Asparagus, Laura Carrot, Petunia Rhubarb, Archibald Asparagus, Pa Grape, Jimmy and Jerry Gourd, Madame Blueberry, Mr. Lunt and Mr. Nezzer. Larry also appears as the hero LarryBoy. The list opens with these and other names from the series as a reference block, not a complete cast.

How do I make up a VeggieTales style name?

Pick a friendly first name and a real vegetable, fruit, bean or herb, then join them with "the" or use the produce as a surname: Walter the Turnip or Hattie Peach. Add a title for an adult, as in Mayor Melon, or a costume name for a hero, as in Captain Kale.

Can I use these names for a play, a party or a Sunday school class?

Yes. The original names are meant for skits, puppet shows, party games, place cards and stories. The names from the series belong to their owners and are listed as reference only, and this page is not affiliated with the show.

Why do the peas and beans come in groups?

In the series the smallest characters often appear together, like The French Peas. The original entries follow that habit with pairs and trios such as Pip and Pod, Dot, Dash and Dee Pea and The Three Chickpea Cousins. They are handy when you need parts for several small children at once.
