Generate Vastaya names in the style of League of Legends lore: soft two-syllable names like Zaeya, Nohli and Ohri, names that carry their tribe like Xaven of the Lhotlan, champion-style epithets, new invented tribes and long ancestral names for the Vastayashai'rei.

About Vastaya names

The Vastaya of League of Legends are the part-animal peoples of Runeterra, many at home in Ionia and all descended from the ancient Vastayashai'rei. Their names in the lore are short and soft: Ahri, Xayah, Rakan, Nami, Neeko. Two syllables, open vowels, and a breathy h or a doubled vowel where a human name would put a hard stop. The personal names here follow that sound in six families, from airy feathered names (Zaeya, Raeko) and rolling hunters' names (Tolgar, Garuun) to sea names (Nohli, Maelu), bouncing names (Tokku, Keelo) and fox-soft ones (Ohri, Vehna).

A Vastaya is known by tribe as much as by name. The generator deals names in random batches, so an entry that depends on its tribe carries it: Xaven of the Lhotlan, Suumi of the Marai, Jikko of the Shimon. The tribes used this way come from the game's lore: Lhotlan, Kiilash, Marai, Shimon, Oovi-Kat, Fauhwoon and Vesani. Entries ending in Tribe, and pairs such as Shuulai Reed-Walkers, are new tribes invented for this list.

The rest are epithets in the manner of champion titles (Fhaeni, the Ember Fox), role names such as Battle-Dancer Raykel, and long archaic names for the Vastayashai'rei, like Ahluu'rei and Ohlaeshu the First-Feathered. Apart from eight champion names kept as anchors, everything is new and in the style only.

How to choose Vastaya names

  • Say the name aloud. Vastaya names in the lore are easy to sing: if yours has a consonant cluster in the middle, drop a letter until it flows the way Rakan and Neeko do.
  • Match the sound to the animal. Feathered characters suit x, k and ay sounds (Xaiva, Laykan), sea-folk suit m, n and l (Nuami, Loumi), and big cats suit a rolled r and g (Murrgan, Kargan).
  • Add the tribe when it matters to the story. Kehra of the Kiilash tells a reader more than Kehra alone, and an invented tribe such as the Kiivesh Night-Paws keeps your character clear of established lore.
  • Keep an epithet short and concrete, like the champion titles: one image, as in Nuela, the Reef Singer or Raxen, the Last Wingblade.
  • Save the long apostrophe names for ancestors and spirits. Shai'Aeluun or Kiilau'rei sounds ancient next to a living character called Neluu.

Frequently asked questions

What are good Vastaya names?

For a feathered Vastaya try Zaeya, Raeko or Xaiva, for a feline hunter Tolgar, Garuun or Niirak, and for sea-folk Nohli, Suuma or Maelu. If you want the tribe in the name, Zaeli of the Lhotlan and Wahlu of the Marai are in the list.

Which Vastaya tribes are named in League of Legends lore?

The best known are the Lhotlan of Xayah and Rakan, the Marai of Nami, the Shimon of Wukong, the Kiilash of Rengar and the Oovi-Kat of Neeko. The list also uses the Fauhwoon and the Vesani. Any other tribe here, such as the Uuvashi Tribe or the Aumesh Cliff-Singers, is invented.

What are the Vastayashai'rei?

They are the ancient ancestors of the Vastaya in the game's lore. The list gives them longer, more archaic names than their descendants, such as Xayuun'rei, Shai'Ohlan and Vehruuna, Who Walked Both Realms. These are new names, not figures from the lore.

Are these real Japanese, Chinese or Korean names?

No. The names are invented to match the sound of the game's Vastaya and are not taken from a real language, so they should not be read as names from any real culture. A few may resemble a real word by chance.
