Generate Tuffle names that follow the Dragon Ball pun rule: the race name Tsufuru is "fruits" scrambled, so Tuffles like Dr. Lychee and Hatchiyack are named after fruit. Get canon-style names for Xenoverse and Heroes characters, Planet Plant OCs, and fanfiction.
About tuffle names
Tuffles are the race the Saiyans wiped out to claim Planet Plant, and like every Dragon Ball race they come with a naming joke. Their Japanese name, Tsufuru-jin, is the word furutsu (fruits) with its syllables scrambled, which makes them the natural counterpart to the vegetable-named Saiyans. The few canon Tuffles follow through: Dr. Lychee (Raichi) from Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans is a lychee, his vengeance machine Hatchiyack is a hachiya persimmon, and GT's Dr. Myuu and the parasite Baby round out the small official roster.
That gives you a simple recipe. Take a fruit, clip it, double a syllable, or scramble it the way Tsufuru scrambles fruits, and you have a name that sounds like it belongs on Planet Plant: Mangoro, Papaiya, Yuzuki, Nanaba, Persimo. Scientists and engineers should carry a Dr. title in the Lychee tradition, since the Tuffles were a technologically advanced people who lost a war of numbers and the Great Ape, not of intellect.
The list mixes canon Tuffles, lychee and persimmon variants, fruit names from Japanese, Spanish and Southeast Asian languages, apple, pear and citrus varieties, scrambled anagram names, and a set of Dr. and Professor names for the lab-coat types who build the Hatchiyacks of your story.
Tips for choosing a name
- Start from a fruit the way Toriyama started from a vegetable for Saiyans: lychee, persimmon, mango and yuzu all clip into two or three syllables that sound right next to Raichi and Hatchiyack.
- Scramble it for a less obvious pun. Tsufuru is furutsu rearranged, so Nanaba (banana), Goman (mango) and Yapapa (papaya) follow the race's own naming logic.
- Give scientists a Dr. title, as canon does with Dr. Lychee and Dr. Myuu; ordinary citizens of Planet Plant just use a single name.
- Japanese fruit words (kaki, mikan, biwa, ume, budou) sound especially authentic because the original pun is Japanese.
- For a Xenoverse 2 or Heroes avatar keep the name short and easy to read in a lobby; save longer names like Cherimoya derivatives for fanfiction.
Frequently asked questions
What do Tuffle names mean in Dragon Ball?
They are fruit puns. Tsufuru-jin, the Japanese name for the race, is furutsu (fruits) with its syllables rearranged, just as Saiya-jin is yasai (vegetables) rearranged. Dr. Lychee is named after the lychee and Hatchiyack after the hachiya persimmon.
Who are the canon Tuffles?
Very few are named. Dr. Lychee (Dr. Raichi) and his creation Hatchiyack appear in Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans, while Dragon Ball GT adds the parasite Baby and Dr. Myuu, the Machine Mutant scientist Baby built. King Vegeta's Saiyans destroyed the rest of the race and renamed Planet Plant after him.
Is Baby a fruit pun too?
No. Baby is the exception, named for being an infant-like parasite created from the Tuffle king's cells, and GT's Machine Mutants (Dr. Myuu, General Rilldo) are not fruit-named either. If you want a Baby-style character, pair a fruit name with the Baby prefix, as in Baby Raichi.
Can I use these names for Xenoverse 2 or Dragon Ball Heroes characters?
Yes. Short names like Yuzuki, Mangu or Persimo read cleanly in menus and online lobbies, and the Dr. names suit Heroes-style villains. Canon names such as Dr. Lychee, Hatchiyack and Baby belong to Toei and Shueisha, so use them as references rather than for anything you sell.
