Survivor Tribe Name Generator

Survivor tribe names are almost always short words taken from the language spoken where the season was filmed. In the early seasons that meant local place names and words: Tagi and Pagong in Borneo, Kucha and Ogakor in the Australian Outback, Samburu and Boran in Kenya. Later seasons in Samoa, the Philippines, Cambodia, and Nicaragua used the same trick with Samoan, Tagalog, Khmer, and Spanish. Since Season 33 the show has filmed almost exclusively in Fiji, so modern tribe names such as Vokai, Lairo, Yase, Ratu, and Vula are Fijian words for things like river, warrior, sun, chief, and month.

The pattern is consistent: two syllables, open vowels, easy for an American host to say, and distinct enough from the other tribe names that a color-coded buff and a name are all viewers need. Merged tribes get a new name coined by the castaways, usually a blend of the original tribe names (Chaboga Mogo, Solarrion, Solewa) or a word chosen for meaning (Kasama, Vinaka, Viakana).
