Sonic OC Name Generator

A good Sonic OC name follows the same rule Sega has used since 1991: one short, punchy word that says something about the character, followed by "the" and their species. Sonic the Hedgehog, Blaze the Cat, Tangle the Lemur, Surge the Tenrec. The first word is usually a trait, an object, an element, or a pun; the second word is the animal. Two syllables or fewer up front is ideal, because it has to fit next to canon names without sounding out of place.

The canon roster gives you a menu of name families to borrow from. Speed and motion words (Dash, Rush, Blitz) suit heroes; tools and machine parts (Sprocket, Ratchet, Piston) suit tinkerers; gems and colors (Garnet, Cobalt, Viridian) are classic for cats, bats, and hedgehogs; foods (Marzipan, Praline, Mochi) are the Cream-and-Cheese school of cute; and weather or space words (Zephyr, Nova, Eclipse) suit mysterious rivals. Alliteration is a bonus, not a rule: Rowan the Stag works as well as Jasper the Jackal.

Every name here avoids characters already used in the games, IDW and Archie comics, Sonic X, Boom, Prime, and the movies, so you will not accidentally name your fan character after an obscure Fleetway villain. Pick a species that fits your character's abilities (a swallow for a flier, an otter for a swimmer, an armadillo for a tank) and the name will practically write itself.
