Protogen Name Generator

Protogens are a closed furry species created by Malice-Risu: part organic, part machine, instantly recognisable by the glowing LED visor that displays their expressions. Their lore describes them as engineered creatures with a nanite-based body and a fluffy tail and back, which is why protogen names tend to sit at the intersection of computing, physics and something soft. The most common style is a single short tech word – Byte, Glitch, Voxel, Relay – that looks good rendered in pixels on a visor.

A second popular style is the unit or callsign, borrowed from the species' factory-made backstory: PGN-04, Unit-7, MK-VII, or a hex-code style tag like 0xC0DE. Leetspeak spellings (V1SOR, GL1TCH, N0VA) are common too, since a lot of protogen art literally shows the name scrolling across the face display. Names of space probes (Voyager, Cassini, Juno), SI units (Tesla, Lumen, Hertz), noble gases (Argon, Xenon) and screen colours (Cyan, Magenta) all fit because they feel scientific without being cold.

Because protogens are still soft, fluffy characters, many owners pick something cute or playful – Boop, Bleep, Kip, Fizz, or a mash-up like Fluffbyte and Softglitch – to balance the cyborg look. Primagens, the rarer sister species, tend toward slightly more serious names in the same technical register. The best protogen name works both as a screen display and as something friends will happily call you at a con.
