Priestess names carry the weight of whatever they serve, so the best ones point at a temple, a goddess or a rite. History gives the pattern: Enheduanna, high priestess of the moon god at Ur and the first author we know by name; the Pythia at Delphi, whose individual names (Phemonoe, Aristonice) were recorded beside the title; the God's Wives of Amun at Thebes such as Amenirdis and Shepenupet; the Vestals of Rome, remembered by family names like Aemilia, Licinia and Tuccia; and the Norse völva Thorbjorg, whose name travels with her role.

For fantasy and D&D, the same logic works in invented form. A flowing given name paired with a surname or epithet drawn from the deity's domain (Vaelith Moonshroud for a moon goddess, Sunniva Dawnflame for a sun cult, Valdis Gravehallow for a death temple) tells the table what she worships before she speaks. Drow and other dark faiths want harder consonants and veil, web and dusk imagery; sisters and mothers of a cloistered order want plain, devout names with a place attached.

The list also covers pagan and Wiccan craft names, which traditionally combine a plant, stone or celestial word with a goddess or nature surname, plus temple names in Egyptian, Japanese, Mesoamerican, Persian and West African styles for settings beyond the usual Greek and Celtic defaults.
