A nerd name has to signal 'knows too much about one thing' the moment it is read. Fiction has settled on a reliable recipe for the full-name version: a first name that peaked before 1950 (Herbert, Milton, Wilhelmina, Gertrude) welded to a long, slightly silly surname (Pinkerton, Prattlebush, Featherstonehaugh). Pun names split a technical term into a first and last name — Al Gorithm, Polly Nomial, Paige Fault — and land best when the whole thing can be said with a straight face. Mock titles such as Grand Vizier of Venn Diagrams or Knight of the Natural Twenty are for trivia teams, bios and Discord nicknames where the owner wants to wear the label proudly. Handles like SegfaultSally or d20Dorothy pair a piece of real jargon with a name so readers instantly know which tribe you belong to: coder, chemist, astronomer, tabletop player or speedrunner.

Whatever you pick, keep the reference one layer deep. A joke that needs explaining stops being nerdy and becomes a typo.
