Changelings in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic are named after insect anatomy and life stages. Queen Chrysalis is the pupal case a butterfly forms in; Thorax is the middle segment of an insect's body; Pharynx is a throat structure; Ocellus is one of the simple eyes on an insect's head. The pattern is a single scientific-sounding Latin or Greek word, which sets the hive apart from ponies, whose names are cheerful two-word phrases like Pinkie Pie or Rainbow Dash.

That gives you three good routes for a changeling OC. The first is pure canon style: pick a body part, exoskeleton term or metamorphosis stage (Elytra, Mandible, Spiracle, Instar, Imago, Exuvia). The second is an insect species name (Cicada, Lacewing, Vespula), which reads a little softer and suits reformed changelings living in Thorax's colorful hive. The third is a pony-style disguise name, the identity a changeling wears while infiltrating Canterlot, such as Honey Guise, Warm Welcome or Crystal Hoof (the alias Thorax used in the Crystal Empire).

The list also includes deception-themed names (Doppel, Understudy, Alibi, Masquerade) and hive-product names (Royal Jelly, Propolis, Honeycomb) for background changelings, drones and hive nobility.
