My Little Pony Name Generator

My Little Pony names have a shape you can hear: two words, usually a colour, plant, sweet, weather or light word followed by something the pony does or looks like. Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Cheerilee, Sugar Belle, Cloud Kicker, Moon Dancer, Berry Punch – the pattern dates back to Hasbro's original 1980s toys, whose names doubled as descriptions of the figure in the box, and Friendship is Magic kept it for hundreds of characters. The name generally hints at the cutie mark, which is why fans building an original character usually settle the talent first and the name second.

Each pony tribe leans on its own vocabulary. Earth ponies, who farm and bake and build, get orchards, crops and pastries (Apple Crisp, Clover Patch, Gingerbread). Pegasi, who manage the weather over Cloudsdale, get clouds, wind and speed (Cirrus Sweep, Tailwind, Barrel Roll). Unicorns, the scholars and artists of Canterlot, get light, stars, gems and magic (Prism Light, Moonstone Melody, Rune Ribbon). Music, art, fashion, comedy and seaside names round out the cast for ponies whose talent doesn't fall neatly into one tribe.
