Lightning dragon names borrow from a smaller, sharper vocabulary than fire dragons do. Greek gives keraunos (thunderbolt), astrape (lightning) and bronte (thunder); Latin gives fulgur, fulmen and tonitrus; Old Norse has elding; Sanskrit has vajra, the thunderbolt of Indra. Names like Keraunos, Fulgora, Brontesk and Vajrakesh sound ancient because every syllable is a real storm word, and the same roots stretch easily into softer forms (Astrapeia, Fulminara) for a dragon that is cunning rather than brutal.

The second source is the sky itself: squall, gale, cumulonimbus, anvil cloud, levin (the old English word for lightning). These make good compounds (Cloudsplitter, Galeshriek, Levinthar) and good epithets for a wyrm that has earned a legend, such as Tormazhul, Breaker of Masts. Phonetically, lightning dragons want quick, jagged sounds: z, x, k and sharp vowels (Zaltrixis, Ixarath) feel like a crack of thunder, while long rolling names read as slow and heavy.

If you are naming a D&D blue dragon, lean into the harsh multi-syllable Draconic style of canon dragons like Iymrith and Lennithon. For a bonded mount or hatchling companion, choose something two syllables at most, like Volta, Kiri or Jolt, so a rider can call it in a storm.
