Hyur are the most populous race in Final Fantasy XIV's Eorzea and, in lore terms, the closest thing to ordinary humans. Because they spread across every city-state, Hyur names are the most varied of any FFXIV race, but they still fall into two recognizable styles that match the two clans. Midlanders use names that read like medieval English or French: a familiar forename such as Thancred, Wilred, Edda, or Rowena, followed by an English-sounding surname like Waters, Blackbosom, or Bale. Highlanders, whose homeland is Ala Mhigo, favor heavier Germanic forenames (Raubahn, Ilberd, Fordola, Arenvald) and often use compound surnames or descriptive epithets tied to their warrior culture.

Surnames tell you a lot about a Hyur's origin. Occupational and place-based names (Cutwing, Tenfingers, Stacks) point to a working-class Ul'dahn or Limsan background, while nobler-sounding surnames suggest Gridanian or Ishgardian ties. Hyur who grew up in the Garlean Empire may carry Garlean rank particles like rem or sas, as Fordola rem Lupis does. Highlanders displaced by the occupation of Ala Mhigo sometimes drop surnames entirely and go by their city, such as Theodoric of Ala Mhigo.

A good Hyur name sounds plausible in a tavern conversation, matches the clan you picked at character creation, and stays under FFXIV's 20-character limit for each part.
