Hammer Name Generator

Named hammers have a long pedigree in myth and fiction. Thor's Mjölnir (Old Norse for "grinder" or "crusher") is the archetype, but Warhammer's Ghal Maraz ("Skull-Splitter"), Warcraft's Doomhammer, and D&D's Whelm and Hammer of Thunderbolts all follow the same instincts. Hammer names are about weight, sound, and consequence: what the weapon does to a shield wall, what it sounds like on an anvil, and who regretted meeting it. That is why so many are compounds of impact words (break, split, shatter, fall, sunder) with a target (skull, gate, wall, king, giant).

Beyond the pure compounds, this list draws on three other traditions. Dwarven relic names read like grudges or oaths (Grudge of Karak Azul, Oath of the Deep Forge) and often name the ancestor or forge that made them. Holy hammers used by clerics and paladins carry a god's name or authority (Hand of Moradin, Torag's Word). And soldiers' hammers get ironic pet names, the way real siege guns did: Big Bess, Goodnight, The Persuader.

Pick the register that matches the wielder. A drunken dwarf and a solemn war-priest should not swing hammers with the same kind of name.
