Generate Grounder names in the style of the TV series The 100: short, worn-down given names like Kael and Runa, full clan forms like Soren kom Trikru and Vesna kom Azgeda, English forms like Maren of the Boat People, and a few titled entries such as Natblida Tavi.
About Grounder names
In The 100, the Grounders are the clans who survived on Earth, and their names sound like old-world names worn smooth by a century of use: Lexa, Anya, Indra, Lincoln, Nyko, Roan. Most are two syllables and come with no family name. Trigedasleng, the language made for the show, writes them as they are said, so Lexa becomes Leksa, Anya becomes Onya and Lincoln becomes Linkon.
A full name adds the clan with kom, which means from or of: Indra kom Trikru, Roan kom Azgeda, Luna kom Floukru. This list uses the twelve clans of the coalition, both in Trigedasleng (Trikru, Azgeda, Floukru, Sankru, Trishanakru, Podakru and the rest) and in English, as in Kelda of the Ice Nation or Talia of the Plains Riders. Skaikru, the Sky People, were not Grounders by birth, so they appear only twice.
The list opens with characters from the show. Everything after them is an original name in the same style, and each given name is used once. A small number carry titles the show uses, such as Heda for the Commander, Fleimkepa for the Flamekeeper and Natblida for a Nightblood.
How to choose Grounder names
- Keep the given name short. Two syllables is the norm (Kael, Runa, Soren), and a single given name with no surname is the Grounder form.
- Pick the clan before the name. Trikru are the Woods Clan, Azgeda the Ice Nation, Floukru the Boat People and Sankru the Desert Clan, and where a character comes from shapes the rest of the story.
- Use the English form in narration and the Trigedasleng form in dialogue: Maren of the Boat People when the narrator speaks, Maren kom Floukru when she introduces herself.
- Save titles for the few characters who have earned them. There is one Heda at a time, and a Fleimkepa serves that Commander, so a story full of them stops feeling like this world.
- To respell a name the Trigedasleng way, write it as it sounds: k for a hard c, ks for x and no silent letters, as in Viktor, Feliks and Deklan.

What does kom mean in a Grounder name?
Kom is the Trigedasleng word for from or of, and it links a person to a clan. Lexa's full name in the show is Leksa kom Trikru, Lexa of the Woods Clan. Names in this list such as Soren kom Trikru and Vesna kom Azgeda follow the same form.
Which clans are in the list?
All twelve clans of the coalition: Trikru, Azgeda, Floukru, Sankru, Trishanakru, Podakru, Delfikru, Ingranronakru, Ouskejon Kru, Louwoda Kliron Kru, Boudalankru and Yujleda. Each also appears under its English name, for example Bren of the Rock Line or Elin of Shallow Valley. Skaikru has only two entries because the Sky People came down from the Ark.
Are these names from the show?
The first entries are characters from The 100, including Indra kom Trikru, Luna kom Floukru and Echo kom Azgeda. The rest are original names written in the same style for fan fiction, roleplay and original characters, and they are not characters from the series.
What do Heda, Fleimkepa and Natblida mean?
Heda is the Commander who leads the clans, Fleimkepa is the Flamekeeper who serves the Commander, and Natblida is a Nightblood, a person born with the black blood a Commander must have. Only a few entries carry them, such as Heda Varro kom Delfikru and Natblida Tavi.
