Gith Name Generator

The gith are the yellow-skinned, psionic humanoids of Dungeons & Dragons who broke free of the mind flayers and then split into two bitter factions: the githyanki, raiders who serve the lich-queen Vlaakith from the Astral Plane, and the githzerai, ascetic monks who follow Zerthimon's teachings in the chaos of Limbo. Both descend from the same slave race, so their names share a root sound, but centuries apart have pushed them in different directions.

Githyanki names are the ones most players know from Baldur's Gate 3 and the Monster Manual: harsh, sibilant and often split by an apostrophe that marks a glottal stop, as in Lae'zel, Ja'adoc, Kar'i'nas, Zar'ryth and Fenelzi'ir. Titles come first when they matter, so Kith'rak (captain), Sarth, Supreme Commander and Gish are attached to a name the way a rank would be. Githzerai names are shorter and heavier, with doubled consonants and few apostrophes: Dak'kon is the famous exception, but the Player's Handbook list runs Duurth, Ferzth, Hurm, Muurg, Shrakk and Xorm for men and Adaka, Ezhelya, Immilzin, Vithka and Yisha for women. Their leaders carry the title zerth or anarch.
