Dwarven Kingdom Name Generator

A dwarven kingdom name usually works at a different scale from a city name. Cities are single holds carved into a peak; kingdoms are the whole network of holds, mines and deep roads under a mountain range, ruled from a capital by a king or high king. Tolkien's Durin's Folk are simply the Kingdom Under the Mountain when they hold Erebor and the Realm of Khazad-dûm when they hold Moria. Warhammer's dwarfs call their entire civilization Karaz Ankor, 'the Everlasting Realm', with each Karak a semi-independent hold inside it. Forgotten Realms lore adds ancient names like Delzoun, Shanatar and Ammarindar for fallen underkingdoms.

That gives three reliable patterns. The first names the realm after its geography: Kingdom of the Iron Hills, Realm of the Grey Range. The second names it after its founding people or king: Kingdom of Durin's Folk, Kingdom of Thrundin's Line, Realm of the Firebeards. The third uses a Khuzdul-flavored word for realm (Ankor, Karaz, Khazad) plus a descriptor, or a blunt English compound like Ironmark or Deepholm.

A good dwarven kingdom name should sound like it was carved into a gate lintel centuries ago. It should be a little formal, tie the realm to a mountain or a lineage, and hint at what the realm is proud of, whether that is a hoard of mithril, an ancient king or the sheer stubbornness of having survived.
