About dishonored names
Dishonored names sound like Victorian Britain seen through a slightly warped lens. Arkane built the Empire of the Isles on real surnames with an industrial, whale-oil flavor (Kaldwin, Pendleton, Havelock, Burrows, Rothwild, Curnow, Timsh) and paired them with given names that are old-fashioned or faintly off: Treavor, Custis, Hiram, Farley, Bundry, Thaddeus, Callista, Delilah. The trick is that nothing is invented outright; a name like Teague Martin or Lydia Brooklaine could almost appear in a Dickens novel, which keeps Dunwall grounded while the bone charms and rat swarms do the strange work.
Each island has its own accent. Gristol and Dunwall are English and Scots-inflected. Morley, the Empire's rebellious western isle, uses Irish names (Byrne, Foster, Lurk). Serkonos and its capital Karnaca lean Italian and Spanish (Attano, Abele, Stilton, Jindosh, Paolo), and Tyvia in the frozen north is Russian with a Mongolian edge (Sokolov, Yul Khulan). Names also signal rank: Lord and Lady for the aristocracy, Overseer and Brother for the Abbey of the Everyman, Doctor for natural philosophers, and a blunt street name like Slackjaw or Granny Rags for the gangs.
The list mixes the canon cast with original names built the same way, so you can populate a fan fiction, tabletop campaign or original story set in the Isles without anyone sounding out of place.
Tips for choosing a name
- Pick the island first. A Gristol surname (Pendleton, Wakefield, Marrowby) with an Italianate first name will sound like a Serkonan immigrant in Dunwall, which can be a deliberate character note or an accident.
- For nobles, favor slightly pompous given names (Custis, Treavor, Horace, Araminta) and surnames that sound like old estates; for watchmen and whalers, keep both names short and plain.
- Abbey of the Everyman characters drop their surnames in address: write Brother Godwin or Overseer Crane, and save the full name for documents and audiographs.
- Gang nicknames (Slackjaw, Grim Alex, Thin Lizzie Crumb) should describe a flaw or a feature; they are given by the street, not chosen.
- If you are naming an Outsider-marked character, avoid anything that sounds mystical. Corvo, Daud, Billie and Delilah all have ordinary names, and the contrast is part of the tone.
Frequently asked questions
What do Dishonored names sound like?
Mostly like Victorian and Edwardian British names with a twist: real but uncommon surnames (Kaldwin, Havelock, Rothwild) and given names that feel a generation out of date (Hiram, Treavor, Callista). Serkonan names lean Italian and Spanish, Tyvian names lean Russian, and Morley names are Irish.
Does this generator include canon Dishonored characters?
Yes. Corvo Attano, Emily Kaldwin, Daud, Billie Lurk, Delilah Copperspoon, Hiram Burrows, the Pendleton brothers, Anton Sokolov, Kirin Jindosh, Breanna Ashworth and others are included alongside hundreds of original names written in the same style.
How do I name a Serkonan or Tyvian character?
For Serkonos and Karnaca, use Italian or Spanish-sounding names such as Vincenzo Abele, Isabetta Carrara or Alvaro Escobar. For Tyvia, use Russian forms like Anatoly Vasilenko or Irina Morozova, or the Mongolian-flavored style of Yul Khulan for characters from the far north.
Can I use these names for a Dishonored tabletop RPG or fan fiction?
Absolutely. The original names are free to use for NPCs, player characters and fan works. If you are publishing something commercial, stick to the non-canon names and avoid the trademarked setting terms.
