Destiny Hive Name Generator

Hive names in Destiny come from Bungie's Books of Sorrow and a decade of strike and raid bosses, and they follow a consistent sound: short, hard syllables built on k, g, x, z, th and r, with long back vowels and the occasional circumflex (Savathûn, Balwûr, Ir Yût, Hashladûn). Names rarely run past three syllables, and consonant clusters are common: Crota, Nokris, Zulmak, Ecthar, Urzok. Apostrophes and hyphens appear but sparingly, as in Alak-Hul and Ta'aun. Softer sounds mark the handful of Hive who were once something else: the three sisters Aurash, Xi Ro and Sathona before they became Auryx, Xivu Arath and Savathûn.

Titles matter as much as the name. Hive of rank carry an epithet that states whom they serve or what they do: Omnigul, Will of Crota; Sardok, Eye of Oryx; Nokris, Herald of Xol; Zulmak, Instrument of Torment. Deathsingers take the prefix Ir (Ir Yût, Ir Anûk, Ir Halak), worm gods use single syllables (Eir, Ur, Xol, Yul, Akka), and broods are named for their master: Blood of Oryx, Spawn of Crota, Grasp of Nokris, Lucent Brood.
